Who Can Get the Federal EV Tax Credit?
In order to qualify for up to $7,500 in federal EV tax credits, certain qualifications must be met. Some of these requirements depend on what year the vehicle was placed into service, your adjusted gross income, and other factors. Some of these requirements include:1
- You must buy the vehicle for your own use, not for resale
- It must be used primarily in the U.S.
- Your modified adjusted gross income (AGI) may not exceed:
- $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
- $225,000 for heads of households
- $150,000 for all other filers
- Qualifying vehicles must:
- Have a battery capacity of at least 7 kilowatt hours
- Have a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 14,000 pounds.
- Be made by a qualified manufacturer.
- The vehicle must undergo final assembly in North America.
- The vehicle's manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) can't exceed $80,000 for vans, sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks or $55,000 for other vehicles.
- It’s important to note that beginning on January 1, 2024, credit eligibility and amount will be determined at the time of sale using the IRS Energy Credits Online website. After our local Ford dealer completes and submits the time-of-sale report online, it will be accepted or rejected in real time, so you won’t have to wait to hear back on eligibility. We will then provide you with a copy of the time-of-sale report, which you will use to claim the credit.
